Description of Activities
The Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) is a global research organization proudly based in Canada. For over 40 years, CIFAR has brought together the brightest people from around the world to collaborate on future-focused research. Unlike traditional research agencies that primarily fund individual projects and labs, CIFAR focuses on building global networks of top researchers and maximising the value of Canada’s existing research infrastructure to drive innovation and deliver practical breakthroughs in sectors critical to Ontario’s future. More than 1,000 researchers from over 30 countries have contributed to our research programs, including 23 Nobel Prize laureates and 3 Turing Award winners, as well as recipients of numerous other prestigious Canadian and international awards.

Received Government Funding
The Received Government Funding table below is not intended to be additive. Adding all of the entries together does not necessarily provide an accurate sum of all government funding received. There may be redundancy (reporting of the same funding more than once) caused by overlap in the "Date/Period Received" between 2 or more entries.
