Description of Business Activities
The Lax Kw'alaams Band is a Tsimshian First Nation government located on the northwest coast of British Columbia, near Prince Rupert, and represents the Nine Allied Tribes of the Tsimshian Nation. Governed by an elected Chief and Council alongside its hereditary leadership, the Band represents its members and protects the Nation's Aboriginal rights, title, and interests throughout its traditional territory. Its activities include delivering governmental and community services to members in areas such as health, education, housing, lands and resources, fisheries, and economic development, as well as engaging in government-to-government relations with the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada on matters affecting the Nation's territory, rights, and title. The Band is currently advocating to government for fair and adequate consultation with respect to treaty legislation presently before the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia that has the potential to impact the rights and title of Lax Kw'alaams and the Nine Allied Tribes of the Tsimshian Nation.
