As pioneers in mining and metals, Rio Tinto produces materials essential to human progress. Rio Tinto produces iron ore fore steel, aluminium for cars and smart phones, copper for wind turbines, diamonds that set the standard for ''responsible'', titanium for household products and borates for crops that feed the world. Rio Tinot's BC Works operation, in Kitimat, British Columbia, comprises a newly modernised aluminium smelter and the Kemano Powerhouse, a hydropower facility supplied by the Nechako reservoir. From Canada's west coast, Rio Tinto transports their products by ship and rail, primarily to customers in Japan, South Korea and the United States. Rio Tinto's operations are certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) for producing aluminium to the highest internationally recognised standard for responsible environmental, social and governance practices.
