Description of Activities
Established in 1963, Children’s Hearing & Speech Centre of BC is a family-focused clinical and educational centre that teaches children with hearing loss to listen and talk, giving them the skills and confidence they need to achieve their fullest potential. We are the only listening and spoken language centre in Western Canada, providing specialized educational programming to children from birth through high school. These programs and services include: early intervention for infants and their parents, specialized preschool, specialized primary classes (kindergarten through grade 3), speech language therapy, hearing resource teacher support for children in generalized education, along with an educational audiologist. We receive funding through BC Government Ministries to support some of these programs and services, covering approximately 40% of our annual costs. We must, therefore, actively fundraise to cover the shortfall and ensure that we are able to continue to provide these effective and critical programs and services to families, and meet increasing demands. Most of our fundraising activities involve donor stewardship, grant applications and fundraising events and campaigns. Some of our activities involve communication with government to provide information and advocate for increased funding.
