Hunters have the moral obligation to make a swift, clean, and humane kill and this should be practiced in all cases of wildlife harvest. Imperfect shots do happen, however, and in the case of dangerous wildlife, the professional guide should be allowed the discretion to take control of the situation and act in the best interest of the client, the wounded animal, and their own personal safety. In these cases, the guide – who is prepared and practiced to address such contingencies – should be allowed to dispatch wounded game.

Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae (movi) is a pathogen that threatens wild sheep health. This disease comes from domestic sheep and the best prevention is signification separation to not allow transmission. We support continues monitoring and testing of both, domestic and wild sheep. The sheep management decisions need to be science-based and focus on what is best for the sheep herd. Where there is significant populations to allow a harvest, we expect one to occur/continue.

The foundation of the outfitting industry is the Guide Territory Certificate. The Wildlife Act allows the term to be up to 25 years. Current policy direction is 6 months to process and complete First Nations consultation. Also there is policy direction that they should be renewed for 25 years. It is important that these timelines are a worst case scenario and that the default term is always 25 years.
