Encourage government to improve early intervention and school-age support programs for children and youth with special needs by increasing funding for: developmental needs assessments; admin support staff needed by specialized health professionals at child development centres; families of children with special needs who need childcare, the Supported Child Development Program; in-house interpretation in health care and community social services at child development centres; extending the At Home Program to support children with disabilities to age 19; the Key Worker Program to ensure dedicated support for kids with FASD; transportation allowances for families outside urban centres needed services at BC Children’s Hospital and Sunny Hill Centre; and to add flexibility to the period of discharge from early intervention until midway through kindergarten to support transition into schooling.
