Jan 30, 2023 | Responses to ORL survey on proposed dollar value limit for lobbyist gifts | Between December 14, 2022 and January 20, 2023, the Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists (ORL) invited public feedback on a proposed approximate $40 limit for gifts permissible under the Lobbyists Transparency Act (LTA) to inform an update to the Lobbyist Gifts guidance document. All interested parties – lobbyists, public bodies, and members of the public – were invited to provide their feedback through an online survey. Seventeen participants shared their feedback through this survey. The survey responses are listed below in the order in which they were received. |

May 06, 2020 | BC's Lobbyists Transparency Act Comes into Force | VICTORIA – Today, British Columbia`s Lobbyists Transparency Act (LTA) comes into force as the remaining sections of the Lobbyists Registration Amendment Act, 2018, take effect. The amendments, passed back in November 2018, incorporate recommendations made by the Registrar of Lobbyists. “These amendments, will result in greater transparency for lobbyists and the public about activities that influence decisions made by government,” said Registrar Michael McEvoy. |

Mar 30, 2020 | Amendments to B.C.'s Lobbyists Registration Act come into force May 4 | On May 4, 2020, the Lobbyists Registration Act will change to the Lobbyists Transparency Act (LTA), as the sections of the Lobbyists Registration Amendment Act, 2018, which have not yet come into force, take effect. The changes include recommendations the Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists (ORL) made to the Province to increase transparency in lobbying. The new legislation will affect all lobbyists. Currently, organizations that have lobbied under 100 hours in the previous 12 months are not required to register in the Lobbyists Registry. However, starting on May 4, this 100-hour threshold will be eliminated, and the registrar anticipates many organizations that have not needed to register in the Lobbyists Registry in the past will be required to do so. |
