BOMA BC has recognized the need for a skilled and certified workforce within the commercial real estate industry. BOMA is engaged with the Provincial Government to facilitate a labour market research partnership to study this issue. This may potentially lead to the development of a post-secondary certification program or related initiatives as the industry works with the Province to gather information and review possible outcomes. BOMA is encouraging the Province to support the Sector LMP Talent Strategy through the Canada/BC Labour Market Partnership Program to ensure there is a plan in place to address the labour market gaps and opportunities in the property and facilities management industry.

BOMA BC has recently developed an emergency mass notification system which will increase communications capabilities in the event of an emergency situation or natural disaster. Quick response times have the power to reduce or eliminate injuries and limit property damage. After receiving our emergency notifications, corporate members can share the information with employees, tenants or property visitors, together contributing to the development of a safer and more aware community. BOMA wishes to work with the Province and other partners to help create a robust and effective mass notification system in British Columbia and recommends that the Province work with our association to fund a feasibility study on a 24-hour emergency monitoring communications service.

BOMA BC would like to engage with the Government of BC on matters related to energy efficiency and conservation in the commercial real estate industry. BOMA has been a leader in developing certification and recognition programs to transform the industry moving towards a greater focus on energy efficiency and continuous improvement of buildings. BOMA is seeking financial support for an energy efficiency centre which will assist the built environment in achieving emissions reductions targets. BOMA has identified a need for further direct hands-on support for energy reduction in Class B and C buildings and would encourage the Province to increase funding for BOMA¿s energy advisory services.
