BC Salmon Farmers Association  
The BC Salmon Farmers Association (BCSFA) is a forum for communication and cooperation within the salmon farming sector, and the focal point for liaison between the industry and government. BCSFA also provides information to the public and stakeholders about salmon farming, and coordinate industry-wide activities, research, and community events. BCSFA members include both farmed salmon producers, and many of the companies who provide services and supplies to them. The BCSFA was established in 1984 and is based in Campbell River, British Columbia. The BCSFA holds research and development as one of the top priorities in maintaining a sustainable industry. The Association is committed to developing new partnerships and initiatives to increase the knowledge base on the environment in which our fish are raised, as well as continually developing innovations to increase production efficiencies and sustainability.

To ensure elected officials are updated on the environmental performance, social inclusion and economic importance of BC's salmon farming industry. To ensure elected officials are aware and informed of BC salmon farming industry, its current challenges and future opportunities. To ensure elected officials receive input from BC salmon farming industry as to how changes to legislation may impact the competitiveness of the sector. Examples of specific pieces of legislation include Environmental Management Act, Integrated Pest Management Act, Land Act etc. An example of where the BC salmon farming industry would meet to influence a permitting decision, is the Pesticide Use Permit. Decisions on the use of any bath treatment pesticide product applied in the marine environment would be the responsibility of the Ministry of Environment. An example of a policy affecting our industry is the recent "Agrifood & Seafood Strategic Growth Plan" as part of the BC Jobs Plan. Lobby activities would from time to time reference this policy.
