Arranging meeting between an individual and a public office holder for purpose of lobbying
To ensure elected officials are updated on the environmental performance, social inclusion and economic importance of BC's salmon farming industry. To ensure elected officials are aware and informed on BC salmon farming industry, its current challenges and future opportunities. To ensure elected officials received input from BC salmon farming industry as to how changes to legislation may impact the competitiveness of the sector. Examples of specific pieces of legislation include the Environmental Management Act, Land Act etc. An example of where the BC salmon farming industry would meet to influence a permitting decision, is the Pesticide Use Permit. Decisions on the use of any bath treatment pesticide product applied in the marine environment would be the responsibility of the Ministry of Environment. An example of a policy affecting our industry is the recent "Agrifood and Seafood Strategic Growth Plan" as part of the BC Jobs Plan. Lobby activities would from time to time reference this policy.
