The BCMA is currently working on 11 policy papers, statements and resolutions that it intends for public release and promotion to the Government. 1. Concussions; considering the impact of the new pan-Canadian Concussion Guidelines on physicians and considering advocating for increased support for physicians with respect to return-to-learn and return-to-play guidelines. 2. Dementia; updating policy statement on dementia care in BC, including prevention and educating and training on the symptoms and management of dementia, and residential care funding. 3. Physician Disaster Preparedness; recently developed a policy paper addressing the role of physicians in disaster and emergency planning and includes commitments and recommendations to support physician integration in health emergency management in BC. 4. Return to Work; developing a policy statement related to WorkSafeBC and return to work that will identify challenges faced by physicians in and make recommendations related to spreading awareness of return to work, improving return to work processes and policies, and providing opportunity for physician training and education on return to work including compensation for doing this training. 5. Physician Burdens; Doctors developing a policy paper that evaluates the cumulative impact of demands on physicians that become overly burdensome and contribute to physician stress and burnout, including recommendations and commitments intended to reduce the volume of administrative burdens on physicians, and off-set the impact of changes in the health system on physician work flow. 6. Nutritional Supplements; passed a resolution supporting the expansion of signing authority on nutritional supplement programs for Registered Dietitians. 7. Physical Activity History; passed a resolution supporting the inclusion of physical activity history within the vital sign section of electronic medical record systems. 8. Preventing Frailty; developing a policy paper that will look at commitments and recommendations to promote healthy ageing and stop and/or delay the onset of frailty. 9. Smoking in Multi-unit Buildings; considering the public health and environmental health impacts of smoking in multi-unit dwellings. 10. Physician Assistants; support and advocate for the establishment and deployment of physicians assistants in British Columbia including that PAs be recognized by the provincial government as a regulated profession with regulatory oversight by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. 11. Quality Assurance in Home Care; considering the potential benefits of supporting a voluntary quality assurance certification program for private home support and care organizations with regards to improving patient safety.
