The BCMA is currently working on 9 policy papers and policy statements with the intent of public release and promotion to the government: 1. Concussions; considering the impact of new pan-Canadian Concussion Guidelines on physicians and considering advocating for increased support for physicians with respect to return-to-learn and return-to-play guidelines. 2. Dementia; updating policy on dementia care in BC including prevention, educating and training on the symptoms and management of dementia, and residential care funding. 4. Professional Autonomy; policy paper released January 2017 that sets out what is meant by professional autonomy. 5. Psychological Safety in Health Care Teams; policy statement released in June 2017 that makes recommendations and commitments in 4 areas that work toward implementing policies and practices that promote psychological safety for physician and health care providers. 6. Chronic Pain; released a policy statement in June 2017 recommending that the Ministry of Health develop a Provincial Chronic Pain Strategy that supports access to multidisciplinary chronic pain services and includes list of actions government should prioritize in a strategy; 7. Physician Disaster Preparedness; recently developed a policy paper addressing the role of physicians in disaster and emergency planning and includes commitments and recommendations to support physician integration in health emergency management in BC. 8. Return to Work; developing a policy statement related to WorkSafeBC and return to work that will identify challenges faced by physicians and make recommendations related to spreading awareness of return to work, improving return to work processes and policies and providing opportunity for physician training and education on return to work, including training compensation. 9. Physician Burnout; developing a policy paper that evaluates the cumulative impact of non-clinical demands on physicians as they relate to physician burnout, including recommendations and commitments intended to reduce the volume of administrative burdens on physicians and off-set the impact of changes in the health system of physician work flow. 10. Nutritional Supplements; passed a resolution supporting the expansion of signing authority on nutritional supplement programs for Registered Dieticians.
