Conservation
Arranging meeting between an individual and a public office holder for purpose of lobbying
Rick Hansen is seeking these meetings re: sturgeon as he has long been interested in the well being of the Pacific Fishery and the importance of conservation and protection measures (e.g., quotas, catch and release for tagging purposes only or an outright ban on fishing) with respect to sturgeon in light of the fact that this particular species is both at risk and very delicate. Although sturgeon are common in the sense that they are found across Canada (one finds s sturgeon in Saskatchewan and Manitoba rivers too so it isn't just a fish that is specific to BC) its numbers are dropping. The dwindling population of sturgeon is relevant as the species dates to prehistoric times. With respect to the list of Ministers and DMs, as all of their mandates have an impact on fisheries it would make sense to seek meetings with them in terms of sturgeon and protection measures. For example, in the case of the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, if BC were to build a new bridge or highway or repair an existing bridge/highway, Mr. Hansen would want to impress on Minister Trevena that any construction involved in doing so would need to take sturgeon habitat into account and take every measure possible to protect that habitat so not to disrupt the sturgeon and their reproductive cycles. In the case of the Minister and DM of Indigenous Affairs, Mr. Hansen would want to make sure that all the Ministries actions are consistent with taking the sturgeon habitat into account and take every measure possible to protect that habitat so not to disrupt the sturgeon and their reproductive cycles.
