Arranging meeting between an individual and a public office holder for purpose of lobbying
As the voice of the automotive aftermarket industry in BC, our membership expect the ARA to advocate with government on their behalf. Specifically, the ARA will participate in meetings with elected and staff members of government, as well as attend events organized by elected officials. Examples of such advocacy work include meetings with:
¿ the Minister of Transportation to express concerns over relations with ICBC;
¿ The Minister of Transportation to discuss the transfer of training responsibilities from ICBC to industry;
¿ The Minister of JTST to discuss challenges and solutions to attract and retain labour in the sector;
¿ The Finance Minister to discuss issues of industry compensation from ICBC;
¿ The Solicitor General to discuss changes to the Motor Dealer Act and policies and practices within government that impact the automotive sector;
¿ The Minister of Environment to discuss environmental issues relating to vehicle and parts recovery and dismantling;
¿ All elected Liberal caucus members are invited to an annual lunch hosted by the ARA for networking between Caucus and the ARA Board of Directors and senior staff.
¿ Government is always asked to attend the ARA Annual Meeting each year. This year, Minister Shirley Bond attended the members of the ARA to present on government priorities with respect to labour and jobs.
Most of the meetings held between the ARA and elected officials are attended by Ministerial and senior government staff also. The ARA also attends various receptions and events organized by the government for which the cost of admission supports government fundraising.
